Try magic eraser! It was the but matter that worked for me. But I likewise used it on the wood, smooth mantle. So I'g non sure for walls or ceilings.

TSP- trisodium phosphate, local hardware store, cheap. I've been using it for years heavy grease soot, wood, bricks wall, metal and laundry stains.

Question: Candle Soot On Walls?

I have just painted my rooms in my house and over the winter I burn candles. Now I have black soot like cloth on my walls. Anyone have any easy thought on how to get this off? I piece of work 65 hours or more a week at the infirmary as a registered nurse and I don't have too much spare fourth dimension

Rubbing alcohol on a clean rag. If you put it in a spray bottle you will get drips.

The offset thing I attempt for wall and ceiling stains is a (generic make) Mr. Make clean-type eraser. It'due south not failed me however.

Question: Soot Odour?
Nosotros had a chimney fire 6 years ago, and a scissure appeared in the chimney. We could run into information technology on the exterior. We got it fixed just a 1 year ago, but obviously left it too long. The chimney has a chamber on either side of it, and we can smell soot when the fire is on. The builders could only get then far in the chimney. Soot must of fallen exterior the flues. I'm worried about this odour. If I put my olfactory organ to the walls I can aroma it.
Do you think putting plaster board on the walls in the bedrooms will help, and skim over it?

I agree with the previous person. Y'all should not smell whatsoever soot in a chamber if the fireplace and chimney are working correctly. Suggest you lot have the unabridged chimney and fireplace inspected with a new judge for whatever needed repairs.
Besides, if the prior repair visitor is at fault, you might consider a monetary demand for any new repairs you may have to make.

The prior tenants in an apartment heated the place primarily with a forest called-for stove. The walls now have a lot of soot on them. We anticipate painting and question should we clean the walls first or prime/seal them so paint.

You need a special soot sponge and rubbing alcohol.
Step 1
Vacuum obvious pieces of soot.
Step 2
Wipe the stains away with a dry cleaning sponge.
Stride three
Dip a clean cloth in rubbing booze and use it to dab and blot the stains if some soot is still left on walls.

TSP does work just it will make you coughing. Definitely wear gloves or your skin wil go irritated. This is not your regular cleaner.

Textured walls will be hard to clean. Merely you could try a dry cleaning sponge. They are chemically treated and work well to clean soot and smoke harm from fires.
Y'all could too try a mix of tri sodium phosphate and water.

I would attempt "twenty Mule Borax" - I know information technology works on cigarette smoke. Dilute in water according to instructions and as well cascade some dry into a small container.
